Jay Simpson - Trainee Golf Professional
February, 2010
Brookwater Golf Club for the first time has a Trainee Golf Professional, Jay Simpson. Jay although employed by Brookwater Golf Club, will conduct his traineeship under the guidance and supervision of Brookwater Director of Golf and P.G.A member Mark Weir. Below is a summary of how he ended up at Brookwater:
He was born in Brisbane and grew up in the Beenleigh area. He first started playing golf at the age of 12 as a member of Mt Warren Park Golf Club changing clubs in 1998 to Windaroo Lakes Golf Club where he played out his amateur career. He turned professional in 2007 playing in Canada for a season, then returning back to Australia in 2008 and starting his Australian PGA traineeship up north in Gladstone.
He is now his 2nd year of the Australian PGA program and this year will be competing in 40 plus events around the Brisbane/Gold Coast area and continuing his studies. Trainee events are held every Monday and Club Members are more than welcome to join him for a day out and support him and fellow trainees.
After completing his traineeship he would like to concentrate on teaching and possibly play some events on the Queensland Sunshine Tour. His goal for 2010 is to win a Pro-Am and finish in the top 10 of the Order of Merit and progress his knowledge of Golf Operations/Teaching with Mark Weir.
